Police on Tuesday arrested three men suspected of manufacturing and selling ballpoint pens capable of firing live ammunition.

Undercover police operatives purchased 11 pens from a resident of Kfar Qana, for a sum of NIS 20,000.

Two other suspects, one from Kfar Qana and the other from a community in the Arava desert were also arrested.

The pens are capable of firing a single 6.35 mm. round before needing to be reloaded.

Police said the pens were also capable of writing and had the potential to be snuck into secure events to carry out an assassination.

Police recently found another store of pistols disguised as pens in Haifa and say they believe there may be more available on the market in Israel.

Police will request an extension of the suspects' remands.
