Israel's Inbal Pezaro finished her heat fifth among all competitors in the women's 50-meter free style, in a time of 39.74 seconds.
Inbal Pezaro won a bronze medal for Israel on the first full day of the London Paralympic Games on Thursday. Competing in the women's 50-meter free style (S6 ) final, she completed the course in 37.89 seconds, an improvement of nearly two seconds over her pace in the heats.
Pezaro finished her heat fifth among all competitors in a time of 39.74 seconds.
The first Israeli to jump into the water was Yoav Valinsky, who was ranked 11th out of 12 in the men's 100-meter backstroke (S6 ) and did not advance to the final. Inbal Ganapol Shwartz, competing in the women's 100-meter backstroke (S6 ), also failed to advance. She finished 12th overall with a time of 1:44.43 minutes.
Table tennis also got underway yesterday. First up was Shay Siada in Class 4. He was swept 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 by Il Sang Choi of South Korea. Choi, ranked fifth in the world, had little trouble from Siada, who is competing in his first Paralympics. Later, Liran Geva was beaten by Class 3 rival Gabriel Copola of Argentina.
