Foul play suspected in Be'er Sheva death

A woman and her life partner were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of her 74-year-old mother. The elderly woman, who was found dead in her Be'er Sheva home on Tuesday, was the victim of a homicide, police say. There were signs of violence and the woman's neck was slashed, according to police. The daughter, who lives in an adjacent apartment in the Nahal Ashan neighborhood, said she found the body and called an ambulance and police. Neighbors were shocked by the death. "I just saw her yesterday and we talked," one of the neighbors said. (Yanir Yagna)

American sentenced to 33 months for smuggling steroids from Israel

A Rhode Island man was sentenced to serve nearly three years in federal prison for his role in a scheme to import steroids and prescription drugs from Israel and resell them in the U.S. Edmond Paolucci was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Providence to 33 months behind bars. He pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges last year. Authorities say the 54-year-old Coventry resident admitted importing misbranded and in some cases illegal drugs from Israel, Turkey and Bulgaria and then repackaging them for online sale in the U.S. Authorities say Paolucci returned a share of the profits to Israel, where they say the drug distribution ring was based.
