Mubarak: Israel evading its responsibility toward Gaza
Egyptian President rejects Israel's ease of Gaza blockade, stresses that Cairo's top priority is fully lifting the Israeli siege of the Hamas-ruled territory.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Wednesday that Egypt strongly rejects any Israeli attempt to renounce its responsibility toward the Gaza Strip and place it on Cairo.
Speaking before members of the ruling party, Mubarak said that Egypt's top priority is lifting the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
He also expressed faith that a Palestinian state will be established on the territories of Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Mubarak's address comes after the Israeli government decided this week to ease its blockade of Gaza, letting in construction materials for projects approved by the Palestinian Authority under international supervision as well as for the United Nations' residential housing projects.
