A statistical rarity occurred in Saturday's Mifal Hapayis national lottery draw as the six numbers picked were exactly the same as those drawn less than a month before. Moreover, 125 people won the draw's secondary prizes, an unusually high success rate.

The six winning numbers in Saturday's lottery were 36, 33, 32, 26, 14 and 13. The same numbers were also drawn - albeit in a different order - on September 21.

Haim Melamed, a statistical consultant for the national lottery, said the confluence of events is rare but not unprecedented.

"There have been cases in the world in which people have won the lottery twice. In the United States there was an instance in which a man won three times," he said. "But the odds of that happening are extremely slim."

Three people shared Saturday's first prize and will split NIS 12 million. Ninety-two second prize winners will get NIS 4,000 each, and 33 others who won in "double" categories will each get NIS 8,000.
