Israeli athletes Richter, Palelashvili eliminated on third day of Olympics
Swimmer Amit Ivry advances to women's 200-meter semifinals; Gal Nevo finshes 200-meter medley in 32nd place, will not advance to semifinals.
Israeli marksman Sergey Richter barely missed the 10-meter rifle final by finishing ninth on Monday in London. He struggled early on and fell as low as 37th, but nailed all of his final 340 points, finishing with a score of 595 out of 600.
Judoka Iosef "Soso" Palelashvili advanced to the elimination round of 16 in the men's -73kg competition, but was ultimately defeated by 2011 world champion Riki Nakaya of Japan. Nakaya scored first a yuko and finished off Palelashvili with an ippon.
Earlier, after getting a first-round bye, Palelashvili defeated Sezer Huysuz of Turkey with a wazari three minutes before the end.
Swimmer Amit Ivry advanced to the semifinals of the women's 200-meter medley. Her time of 2:13.29 was good enough for 12th. The semifinal is scheduled tonight for 10:55 P.M Israel time.
Gal Nevo finished the 200-meter medley in 32nd place and did not advance to the semifinals. He won the first heat in 1:59.98 minutes, but the stronger swimmers were in the following heats.
Israeli sailor Nufar Edelman will compete in the women's laser radial later Monday. The first race is scheduled for 2.05 P.M. Israel time.
