After a day of mourning for more than 22,000 people lost in battle or terror attacks, Israelis on Monday night celebrated the start of Independence Day with nationwide festivities, including concerts, fireworks and street parties.

The celebrations kicked off with a torch-lighting ceremony in Jerusalem, which formally ended Memorial Day.
