IDF arrests four Palestinians for carrying weapons at West Bank checkpoint
Man found to be in possession of improvised handgun, ammunition, and 11 pipe bombs as he attempted to pass through the Salem checkpoint near Jenin.
Israeli security forces arrested four Palestinians carrying ammunition and makeshift bombs near an Israel Defense Forces West Bank checkpoint on Sunday.
A military policeman stationed at the Salem checkpoint near the Palestinian city of Jenin noticed wires sticking out of the jacket of a man trying to pass through the army station.
Later, the Palestinian also triggered the metal detector alarm, causing present soldiers to detain the man, at which point he was found to be in possession of an improvised handgun, ammunition, as well as 11 pipe bombs.
The man was accompanied by three other Palestinians, but a search indicated that they had not been carrying any arms or ammunition.
In light of the incident, the checkpoint was closed, as was the nearby military court. IDF sources said in response that it is possible to enter both the military court, as well as Israel through the checkpoint, but that the target of the attack is yet unknown.
