Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to hold first meeting open to media
The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee will today hold the first meeting in its history to be open to the media. At it, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni will survey her ministry's activities and answer questions from Knesset members. Committee Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi (Kadima) has been pushing the idea of opening some of the panel's meetings to the press, and committee members approved it by a vote of 10-7. Opposition to the move was led by former committee chairman MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud), who argued it would encourage MKs to grandstand for the media rather than debating the issues seriously.
