El Al sweating over Delta's planned New York route
If Delta does start running its own line, it would add 90,000 seats a year to the route
Concern is mounting at El Al over potential revenue loss from its flagship New York-Tel Aviv line, because code-sharing partner Delta is about to turn into pure rival.
Delta means to start running its own daily flight between New York and Israel.
Under their agreement, each airline allocates 100 seats to the other airline's customers on their respective New York-Tel Aviv and Atlanta-Tel Aviv flights.
Tourism Ministry director general Nahum Itzkovitz met with senior officials at Delta's headquarters in Atlanta recently, and learned that the airline was very satisfied with its existing route from that city, which was established in May of 2006, and wished to commence service from New York in early 2008.
Delta's move would add 90,000 flight seats a year to the New York-Tel Aviv route.
