Disgruntled Discount Bank staff up the ante
Disgruntled staff at Israel Discount Bank decided yesterday to step up their industrial action - "even to strike" - to protest the lack of an agreement over workers' rights after the bank's forthcoming privatization. Staff at the bank's telephone service will be on strike today, while the action will shut the main branches in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa tomorrow. Next Sunday, the center of large business clients will close. On Monday, all branches will be shut for a day as the workers meet for an "explanation conference," together with Histadrut labor federation representatives. "We said that the moment the buyers of the bank are approved without the state reaching an agreement with us ensuring the rights of 5,000 Discount workers, the bank will be closed and that's what will happen," the chairman of the bank workers' committee, Ricki Bachar, said yesterday.
