The dearth of work days during the High Holiday season created a short supply of dairy and chicken products, which became pronounced late last week in grocery stores.

The main products in short supply were cottage cheese and milk from the three major producers: Tnuva, Strauss (which sells Yotvata milk) and Tara. However, some groceries experienced even greater shortages, extending to cheeses and puddings.

Fresh and refrigerated chickens by Tnuva were also harder to find.

Supersol posted formal signs over the weekend in some of its stores informing customers of the dairy product shortage. Signs in the chicken section read, "Due to a halt in ritual slaughtering, there is a lack of chicken products."

Tnuva attributed the shortfall to the holiday season, but noted that it would catch up on supplies by today.
