Israel’s national basketball team received a relatively easy draw for the 2013 European Championships, to be held this summer in Slovenia. Israel was drawn with France, Germany, Britain, Ukraine and Belgium. The three teams that top the group will continue to the second stage.

Apart from France, who lost in the finals of the last championship, and is expected to top the group even if NBA star Tony Parker decides to skip the championships, Israel probably received the weakest team in each ranking, and actually defeated Belgium, Germany and Ukraine this summer in friendlies.

Shivek, who was probably unlucky in his previous three draws, said: “There are no easy draws at the European Championships but we can probably beat any of these teams. Our hope is to reach the second stage, possibly with a win against one of the other top three teams.”

Israel’s first game will be against Britain on September 4.
