Anglos in the Sharon area are leading a campaign to support Colette Avital's bid for the presidency.

The group has been lobbying MKs and arranged a newspaper advert calling on parliamentarians to vote for Avital in Wednesday's elections, say coordinators Doreen Gainsford and Ella Gera, both British-born.

Some 80 individuals have signed a letter in support of the Labor lawmaker, which has been distributed to all MKs. The first woman to run for the presidency, Avital is a former diplomat who served as Israel's consul general in New York. She will compete against Shimon Peres of Kadima and Likud candidate Reuven Rivlin.
