AG says won`t indict Lieberman for calling for execution of Arab MKs
Israeli Arab advocacy center urged Menachem Mazuz to indict Yisrael Beiteinu leader over comments.
Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has rejected a rights group's request to indict Yisrael Beiteinu MK Avigdor Lieberman for incitement to racism and violence, Mossawa Center for Arab Citizens in Israel said on Wednesday.
The center wrote a letter of complaint after Lieberman called for the deportation of Israeli Arabs and for the execution of Arab MKs on grounds of "collusion with Hamas" during a press conference in January.
Deputy Attorney General Shai Nitzan replied that "these comments may be out of line, but MK Lieberman's legislative immunity protects him, in this case as well as others, from being indicted."
Mossawa's legal coordinator Attorney Tamer Massalha said that Mazuz's decision is "extremely unreasonable, irrational and regretful. If these comments were made by Arab MKs toward Jews they would not have enjoyed the same treatment."
