10 killed as Palestinian children's bus, truck collide near Jerusalem
Nine of the 10 fatalities were kindergarten children on their way to a field trip near the West Bank town of Ramallah; dozens reportedly injured.
Nine Palestinian children and one adult were killed on Thursday when a children's bus collided with a truck north of Jerusalem. Dozens of people were reportedly injured in the accident.
The accident took place near Adam Square in the north side of the capital, not for from the Hizma checkpoint separating Jerusalem and the West Bank. Emergency crews have arrived at the scene and are tending to the injured.
According to preliminary reports, the bus overturned and caught fire as a result of the collision.
The bus was carrying children from a kindergarten in the Shuafat refugee camp on their way to a field trip to a park near Ramallah.
Yaniv, an emergency services paramedic, said that three of the dead were removed from the burning vehicles.
“This is a very serious accident. The place looks like a battle field. The cars were in pieces and two went up in flames. The death of three was confirmed at the scene. The rest of the wounded have been taken to hospital,” Yaniv said
In May of last year, four people were killed after a Palestinian vehicle and a tourist bus collided head on near the Dead Sea, with several passengers escaping with only minor injuries.
