Lebanese security officials say Syria's interior minister suffered a serious back injury in the bombing of his ministry last week and is being treated in Lebanon.
Interior Minister Mohammed al-Shaar was wounded in the December 12 bombing in Damascus that killed several people and wounded more than 20. At the time, state-run Syrian TV said he was not hurt.
The security officials said al-Shaar arrived in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday. They asked that their names not be used because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that President Mahmoud Abbas is seeking to shelter Palestinian refugees fleeing from Syria.
Thousands of Palestinian refugees displaced by fighting in the refugee camp of al-Yarmouk near Damascus arrived on Wednesday to the Lebanese-Syrian border.
