Mazal Tov: Lion Cubs Born in Gaza!

Hamas-run zoo names one Fajer in honor of Iranian missiles fired at Israel in the November 2012 conflict, and the second, Sejeel, the name which Hamas called their offensive.

For the first time in the Gaza Strip, a lion has given birth to two cubs, on Sunday evening.

The 6 year-old African lion, which was smuggled through the tunnels four years ago, gave birth in normal conditions according to the northern Gaza Besan Zoo, which is run by Hamas.

The manager has named the male cub Fajer in reference to the Iranian made Fajer rockets which were used during 8 days of fighting between Gaza militants and Israel in 2012, and the female Sejeel, the name which Hamas called their offensive.

"The lioness gave birth [Monday] to two cubs, one male and one female," Nahed al-Majdub told AFP. "They were named Fajer and Sejeel," said Majdub, Arabic for dawn and clay.

Hamas's military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, celebrated the occasion on twitter congratulating itself on having smuggled the lions past Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

"Despite Israel's unjust siege, Palestinians managed to smuggle these 2 lions to draw a smile on faces of Gaza kids," the group tweeted.
