The Charlie\nHebdo tragedy has completely disrupted the judgment of the great\nmajority of journalists, especially in France, where a self-righteous\nchampioning of 'freedom of speech' - including by representatives of\nQatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia during the January 11 giant march - has\npractically damped the outrage about the murder of four Jews and\n(almost) any criticism of Charlie Hebdo. I reproduce below my comment\non that Haaretz editorial: I can't believe Haaretz is taking this stand.\nIsrael of all places should be (and is usually) careful to distinguish\nbetween terrorists and ordinary Muslims. There is absolutely no doubt\nthat publishing Muhamad's representation will trigger more violence in\nIsrael. The very existence of Haaretz is enough guarantee of freedom of\nexpression in Israel. If we want ordinary Muslims to be our partners in\nthe fight against terrorism, we shouldn't insult them. Instead publish\nas many caricatures of Islamist terrorists as you wish.\n","relatedComments":null,"title":"Blind Spot","parentCommentId":"0","publishingDateForData":"2015-01-27 08:30","publishingDateForDisplayMobile":"08:30 27.01.2015","publishingDateForDisplayApp":"27.01.2015 08:30","publishingDateForDisplay":"2015-01-27 08:30","publishingDateSortable":"20150127083030","commentId":"19.3954917","articleId":"1.638836"},{"author":"Assam","commentText":"Lieberman must be a new convert for the freedom of speech. It adds nothing to the divinely mandated\n"Vision-Courage-Trust Building” equation that is required in\nthe Holy Land and Middle East. (Think of the prophecy contained in the\nTanach of "All people turning to the Good\/One G-d" at a\ncertain time in history. Bizrat hashem\/Insha’Allah may that be\nnow.) It is politically opportunistic as it may increase some votes to\nYisrael Beytenu from meshuganneh elements but it will affect the peace\nprocess deleteriously. I agree 100% with King Abdullah II of Jordan who\nlast Thursday praised Pope Francis' remarks on limits to free speech,\nwhen he said that religions must not be offended. It's all about\nbalance. The great Jewish sage Maimonides spoke about the importance of\nadopting "The Golden Mean" on all matters of importance. P.S.\nBird flu spreads; 40,000 turkeys to be culled.
