Former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez has apologized to Jon Stewart for calling him a bigot, Sanchez's wife Suzanne published on her Facebook profile on Monday.
Comments that Sanchez made on Friday, including claims that CNN is run by Jews and that Jews do not experience serious discrimination, led to his firing on Saturday.
On her Facebook profile, Suzanne Sanchez wrote, "Rick apologized to Jon Stewart today." They had a good talk. Jon was gracious and called Rick 'thin-skinned.' He's right," she added.
Stewart is the host of the Comedy Central program The Daily Show. Sanchez has been the butt of Stewart's jokes a number of times over the years.
The controversial remarks were made by Sanchez in an interview with radio show host Pete Dominick on Friday: "I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart."
Sanchez continued, "To imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah [sarcastically]… I can’t see somebody not getting a job somewhere because they’re Jewish."
The following day, CNN said in a statement that Sanchez is no longer an employee with the company. In the press release, the network also thanked Sanchez for his years of service and wished him well.
Stewart made comedic reference to Sanchez's comments and subsequent sacking on Saturday night at a fundraising event and again on The Daily Show on Monday night.
Sanchez has made no public comment since the incident, and his Facebook profile is only visible to his approved friends. But on her publicly visible page, his wife Suzanne spoke of Sanchez's regret.
"Rick feels horrible that in an effort to make a broader point about the media, his exhaustion from working 14 hour days for 2 months straight caused him to mangle his thought process inartfully [sic]," she wrote.
Suzanne Sanchez added, "He got... caught up in the banter and deeply apologizes to anyone who was offended by his unintended comments."
Sanchez later posted a reminder to her friends: "Make sure to watch Jon Stewart's show tonight."
