Don Leoncio Alonso González de Gregorio y Álvarez de Toledo, 22nd Duke of Medina Sidonia, Grandee of Spain will apologize to Jewish community of Gibraltar for the expulsion of Gibraltar's Jews in 1474 by one of his ancestors on Monday evening, the Gibraltar Chronicle reported.
The Duke of Medina Sidonia will present an official document of apology to the president of Gibraltar's Sephardi community James Levy at a ceremony at the Instituto Cervantes at 7pm, the Gibraltar Chronicle said.
The document of apology will be written in Spanish and Hebrew.
After the 15th Century expulsion, Jews would only return to Gibraltar centuries later after the territory passed into the hands of the British with the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
