U.S. vandals deface image of Israeli NBA star with swastika

By Haaretz ServiceCalifornia police launched a hate crime investigation Wednesday after a mural depicting Israeli basketball star Omri Casspi was defaced with a Nazi symbol, CBS News reported.
Passersby told the U.S. broadcaster they were stunned to see a swastika scratched between the Jewish athlete's eyes in the state capital city of Sacramento.

The mural's artist repaired the damage and covered the symbol Wednesday afternoon. It was the second time the mural had been defaced, he told CBS.
Casspi, 22, who was born in Holon and raised in Yavne, is the first Israeli to play in the NBA.

As a Hindu, I am hurt that our sacred symbol (also that of Jainism and Buddhism) is MISUSED again to promote racism. SWASTIKA means "well being" used by civilization for the last 5000 years and is associated with NON-VIOLENCE. Please use the SACRED SYMBOL to promote love, non-violence and well-being as is used for the last 5000 years.

There is a big Palestinian Arab community in San Francisco mostly around the SFU and Pacific Height area. I have some very good friends among them who are peaceful, well educated and moderate. My guess is that this was done by some white supremacist who could as well do something like that to Arabs too.

Jews have been hated and persecuted throughout history. I will give you one incident that I lived in my lifetime to show you how senseless it can be: In September 1955 the Turkish government was having some issues with Greece and in order to create a public opinion against Greeks they spread a false rumor that some Greek had put fire at the birth house of Kemal Ataturk (Founder of modern Turkey) in Salonika. And Guess what? Mobs in Istanbul and Izmir attacked not only Greeks but also Jews in their homes and businesses. Many Jewish owned businesses in the Beyoglu area were ransacked, the merchandise looted on September 6-7 of 1955 when I was 5 years old. It proves that enemies of Jews and Israel do not need a real reason to hate them, just an opportunity to attack that's all.
