Rebecca Steinfeld, whether she knows it or not, is an anti-Jewish Jew.
Ignorance of the deeper meaning of Jewish tradition, not hatred, is the
foundation of Jewish negativity towards Judaism. It is not surprising
that her comments reveal deficiency of Jewish development and intuition,
for the simple reason that Judaism is immensely profound, in certain
respects certainly much more cognitively demanding than the requirements
of the mere academia. What is disappointing about Steinfeld's approach
to the subject is that its superficiality reveals a lack of both healthy
humility and a sense of Jewishness appropriately respectful towards the
profound Jewish tradition that has given her everything excellent she
can claim for her own. Rebecca Steinfeld, there is more in Torah than
you have so far imagined.
Global Survey of Circumcision Harm [CircumcisionHarm.org] In
2011-2012, over 1,000 men answered a detailed online survey and uploaded
photographic evidence and video testimonies of the physical, sexual and
psychological harm they continue to live with from genital cutting they
could not consent to, refuse, resist or escape from. The harm resulted
not from 'botch' jobs but from medical and religious circumcisions that
met the 'standard of care'. About 4% of respondents were Jewish men.
Even for me as a Christian this is clear. And, by the way, Jesus was, of
course, circumcised and it is mentioned in Luke 2,21: "And when
eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name
was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was
conceived in the womb."
The problem with Judaism is its anchor in old, say biblical times.
Non-believers have no understandig of antiquated procedures. So, dear
Jews, modernize and get along with a faster running time.
Jesus was also, reportedly, crucified, so "the Imitation of
Christ" can be taken too far.
