Why buy flavored applesauce in the grocery store when you can make your own unique flavors at home with almost no effort. Just mix the fresh ingredients together in your slow cooker and forget about it! The result is sweet, tart, rustic and delicious. Serve this with your latkes this Hanukkah..
Ingredients
8 soft apples
10-15 kumquats
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 Tbsp brown sugar
½ cup apple juice
¼ cup orange juice
Directions
1. Peel, core and slice apples in to large chunks. Slice the kumquats and remove the seeds. Add them to the slow cooker and stir with all the other ingredients.
2. Turn on slow cooker to low and cook for 5-6 hours.
3. Whisk the apples vigorously until they fall apart and you are left with a chunky applesauce. Leave in the slow cooker on low for 30 more minutes, or you can serve right away. Enjoy!
