God and the people in Israel, in mundane and sublime ways, through nature and human endeavor, interact in a unique partnership.
The melody is the message. Every time I have sung Israel’s national anthem “Hatikva,” along with others at American synagogues, Jewish community centers, professional and communal conferences, the standing crowd has been pious and serious. Everyone knows the tune, if not all the words. It is always a moving moment.
