'They're kosher vampires,' says Twilight and New Moon screenwriter
Bloodlust, vampirism and ambiguous morality may be un-Jewish, but Twilight and New Moon is changing that.
By www.jewishjournal.com Tags: Jewish World Israel newsMelissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter of The Twilight Saga, is 6 feet tall with straight blonde hair, a pale complexion and a long, slim nose. Not exactly the most ethnic woman imaginable.
"I don't look particularly Jewish," she says sheepishly, half-wondering why she's on a lunch date with The Jewish Journal. "But I have a very Jewish name."
In the 18 years since, Rosenberg has made a name for herself as a television and film writer. But her career really took off in 2007 when she was anointed movie scribe of the Twilight franchise, based on the best-selling series of young adult novels by Stephenie Meyer.
Bloodlust, vampirism and ambiguous morality could be seen as decidedly un-Jewish. After all, vampire mythology, as Rabbi David Wolpe notes (see accompanying article), is philosophically at odds with Jewish values. And if you ask Rosenberg, "The Twilight Saga" in particular is a departure from religion-based vampire lore and instead is an exercise in secular storytelling.

..and of course there was that film where when the chassidik rav is confronted with a large cross, he comes out with line, "Oy, have you got the wrong vampire". ||The film was called "The fearless Vampire killers" ans was released in the late 60s
All the Rosenbergs I've ever known weren't Jewish either. They were Episcopals or Anglicans.
There is no evidence that vampires ever existed anyway. Drinking blood is totally against kosher dietary law as well. But I can see where every anti-Semite would seize the opportunity to revive the old blood liberal. And we all have the Catholic Church to thank for that.
one day Israel will have very little Jews because everybody will be only defined by relgious observance alone. No atheists Jews, no secular Jews, no traditional Jews, no half Jews, no quarter jews qualifying as Jews, no no no. Ethnicity has obiviously nothing to do with having Jewish blood here so why bother--.........;/Religion alone please. All will be haredi, or totally orthodox relgiously observant, pay taxes, do army, work, and pray. There we go.
"Bloodlust, vampirism and ambiguous morality could be seen as decidedly un-Jewish." Shouldn't somebody tell that to Avigdor Lieberman?
So, 3 and 4, if you hate Israel so much, why do you live there?

It's amazing to read a (supposed) Israeli so full of self-hate. Your country has been bled by neighbors for decades who have rejected your very right to statehood and yet you hate your country. Self-criticism is admirable and Israelis could do with more of it, but to go overboard and call your entire country vampiric is to completely deny your humanity. It simply isn't true and your comments are sickening.
you are soooooooooooooo right
So, let me get this straight: after the shechita, these vampires drain all the blood out, burry it, and then salt their victims, right? Wow. These must be very hungry vampires. No wonder they are so thin and pale!
"As an Israeli, I grew up in a vampire state who feeds on American treasure. We feed on our neighbors (the Palestinians) for land. We feed on each other...just for fun." The zionist dream can never reach fulfillment if too many Israeli 'Avis' begin to fill out the jewish population of Israel. However, General Israeli support for the recent invasion of Gaza suggest that Avi is in a distinct minority.
Is the idea of "kosher vampires" so novel? As an Israeli, I grew up in a vampire state who feeds on American treasure. We feed on our neighbors (the Palestinians) for land. We feed on each other...just for fun.
Love it! So funny...
Does that mean they never bite policemen?
