Jews generally marry between Jews. Thus the genetic similarities.

Remember, there are twelve Jewish Tribes, all fathered by Abraham and four women. That there is a Jewish gene, backs this theory and makes it clear that Jews are a race, a people, and Israel is their home and now, their name, Israeli's.

That's why I am a descendant of the ancient Hebrews, but am not Jewish. My husband is Jewish, but not a descendant. He's says together, we make the perfect Jew! ;-)

If you care to read the article, you will notice that it says that the link between Iraqi Jews and European Jews is fairly recent, meaning that Iraqi Jews with that genetic marker were descendants of European Jews who emigrated to the Middle East. There is no solid proof linking all Jews, much less confirming that they are all descendants from the ancient Israelites. Palestinians have far more chances of that than some guy from Kishinev.

You are speaking under the assumption that the Palestinians are indigenous to this area. turns out that if one is curious you will find that the Turks spend generations bringing different folks from their empire to populate this land, just as the Crusaders emptied European villages and brought them to Palestine. An interesting story is that of the Pals of Abu Ghosh, Israel, who were brought here by the Turks three hundred years ago from Khazistan. I wonder what their genetic makeup looks like.

The Sephardi/Ashkenazi divide isn't so straightforward - Jews have moved between different communities throughout history. There are, for instance, quite a few Sephardi/Mizrahi Jews with the last name Ashkenazi, suggesting at least a paternal Ashkenazi ancestor who settled in a Sephardi/Mizrahi community.

Cherokee's have Jewish DNA markers as well. Must be some of the first "wandering Jews."
