I see nothing wrong with this cartoon - Israel has built a wall, Palestinians are getting killed every day as part of the occupation including the last 10 days when 6 young people were killed for protesting the wall and the occupation. Why couldnt the army have used gas as they do so regularly or the horrifying skunk machine? although Abu Mazen has said he will enter talks if Netanyahu freezes construction, Netanyahu has not frozen construction. If u go to the West Bank you can see building continuously so why is this caricature so terrible. Are caricatures meant to be beautiful? How about before Rabin was killed and the right wing were incited by the heinous ads of Netanyahu showing Rabin with Kaffiya, Rabin in Nazi uniform and in Raanana, Rabin in a coffin? If the fence/wall/separation barrier saves lives, why are 500,000 Jewish settlers living on the other side of it? No, the fence is built on Palestinian land and is there to make their lives increasingly difficult and miserable and powerless - in the hope that they'll give up the struggle. I agree that the cartoon is poor however you make such enormous leaps in logic that I cannot tell if you are being serious. The wall is undoubtedly a bad thing, because it has made unilateral demands on the ground that reduce the prospects of peace. It has also greatly hardened the hearts of the Palestinians, and reduces Israel standing severely in the eyes of the international community. It effectively amounts to a large prison cell to accompany the smaller one to Israel's south-west. It makes the Israeli occupation looks as bad as it is: a colonising force systematically clearing out the 'lesser' people from their land by means of a vastly superior military force. It is not the action of a side committed to peace or righting the very serious wrongs it has inflicted on millions of individuals. The small reduction in civilian deaths on one side is not worth the price of the freedom of millions of people, nor the harassment to ordinary people living in their homes who are prevented from reaching their lifeblood, their ancestral groves and fields. Nor is it worth the resultant radicalisation of Palestinian youth that occurs from decades of ever increasing oppression. What do you think these people will do when Israel unilaterally annexes all the settlements? Disappear? Are you hoping they will all slowly be squeezed into Jordan? Your argument's main flaw, however, is that this cartoon is solely antisemitic libel. Great piece, though it noticeably skips over the central idea of the cartoon that Netanyanhu is building the wall with Palestinian blood, and that most of the howls of anti-semitism ought to be seen as attempts to deny the sad state of racist oppression that the Israeli state has come to accept as normal.
The complaints from the "usual suspects" have given the cartoon far greater circulation than it would otherwise have had, especially as the Sunday Times sits behind a subscription Wall (if one may use that explosive word). The cartoon was obviously a comment on the Israeli elections and had nothing to do with Holocaust Day. The timing was a cock-up rather than a conspiracy.

These images, and Scarfe’s cartoon, are tragically evocative of those published by Julius Streicher in Der Sturmer. Streicher, I remind you, was tried at Nuremberg and executed as a war criminal for his role in the Holocaust. Scarfe subsequently apologized for publishing the cartoon on Holocaust Remembrance Day. The fence is not built from blood, that would not work as a fence. It is built from concrete and barbed wire by Arab construction crews. It is very difficult to discuss issues like this, because what is at stake is not only the anti Semitism, but the handling of the issue of anti Semitism to ward off political criticism to the State of Israel. It is very difficult to discuss this issue even here in Haaretz, without being censored by moderators. Any view which deviates an inch from the strict interpretation of what is permissible is censored, even though it is clear that aims to discuss what is anti Semitism and what is not. It seems that any criticism of criteria about what is anti Semitism should also be seen as anti Semitism. It seems that you are only allowed to do this if you were a Haaretz's journalist.

In the last 10 days at least six Palestinians were killed by the IDF, four in Gaza walking or working on their own land.
