X Factor judge Simon Cowell's socialite Jewish girlfriend Lauren Silverman gave birth to a baby boy in New York on Valentine's Day, the New York Daily News reported. The couple named their son Eric, after Cowell's late father.

"Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm [EST]. Healthy and handsome," Cowell tweeted soon after the birth.

Cowell was with Lauren when she gave birth, after a trans-Atlantic dash to get there in time. In London for X Factor auditions, he dropped everything and raced to New York after Silverman phoned him in the middle of the night to say: “The baby’s on the way.”

“I feel like a daddy,” Cowell, 54, said after the birth. The creator of “American Idol” and “X Factor” spent the day with Silverman, 36, in a luxury suite in a Manhattan hospital. Sources said Silverman was staying in the exclusive maternity ward where Beyonce Knowles gave birth two years ago to Blue Ivy Carter, her daughter with husband Jay-Z.

Cowell was immediately smitten with his little star. “I’ve waited all my life for you,” were his first words to Eric, according to London’s Sun newspaper.

Lauren, whose official due date was February 28, was showing “early signs” but not yet in full labor when she phoned Cowell.

Earlier this week, he told the Mirror newspaper that he had a private jet on standby in case he had to return to New York.

Silverman isn't Cowell's first connection with Judaism; according to "Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell," the celebrity's father was Jewish, but didn't share the religion with his children. The TV mogul was raised Roman Catholic, but has previously expressed little interest in religion.
