Turkish group suspected of hacking European Jewish news site
European Jewish Press home page replaced with colors of Turkish flag, oriental music.
The news website of the European Jewish Press was hacked on Wednesday, presumably by Turkish hackers, according to the independent EU Reporter.
The hackers placed an image of a mushroom cloud bearing the colors and crescent of the Turkish flag on the home page of the Jewish news agency "with oriental music playing in the background," the website reported.
The attack took place after the European Jewish Press published a story about Scarlett Johansson defending Israeli company SodaStream.
A message on the hacked website called for “revenge for Turkistan, Palestine, Syria and Egypt,” according to the EU Reporter. It also stated: “Do not try to test the power of the Turks!’’
The so-called Atomaker & Hasturk group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The link as of Thursday leads to an error message.
“This is not the first time a Jewish site has been attacked by hackers on the Internet," said European Jewish Press editor-in-chief Yossi Lempkowicz.
