Hitler ring tone could land German in jail
Man faces prison term for programming cellphone to play Nazi leader's speech calling for 'destruction of world Jewry.
A 54-year-old German man is facing up to six months behind bars for using a speech by Adolf Hitler as the ring tone for his cellular telephone, a British newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The man had programmed his Nokia telephone to play a speech in which the Nazi leader pledged the "destruction of world Jewry" if Germany was "dragged" into war, according to a story in the Daily Telegraph.
Passengers aboard a train in Hamburg heard the ring tone several times during a journey and reported him to police who arrested him as he left the train.
Police found swastika stickers and photos of Hitler on the telephone with the caption "The greatest commander of all time".
The man was charged with violating the German constitution, which expressly forbids public displays of the Nazis and all their works.
