Atlanta Jewish Times publisher resigns over Obama 'assassination' column
Andrew Adler suggested Israel should assassinate U.S. President Barack Obama to counter Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

Adler, who has since apologized for his article, listed three options for Israel to counter Iran’s nuclear weapons in an article published in his newspaper last Friday. The first is to launch a pre-emptive strike against Hamas and Hezbollah, the second is to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities and the third is to “give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies.”

Adler goes on to write: “Yes, you read “three correctly.” Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence. Think about it. If have thought of this Tom-Clancy-type scenario, don’t you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel’s most inner circles?"
According to JTA's report, Adler announced Monday that he is “relinquishing all day-to-day activities effective immediately,” and that he named John McCurdy as interim managing editor.

One wonders if this man is mentally stable.
He knows that he branded the paper that he owns as loony and that the brand will stick as long as he appears to be calling the shots. Of course, as the owner, he will still be calling the shots, but it's his earnest hope that people won't notice and his paper will have some monetary value.
It's wrong for the publisher of a leading newspaper to be calling for the Mossad to kill Presient Obama.

The "newspaper" in question is a tiny rag, with fewer than 10 (!!!) employees. It in no way represents Jews, Jews in America, or even Jews in Atlanta! and yet there is more ink on this "story" in Haaretz than there is in Haaretz on the PA Mufti in Jerusalem who represents all "moderate" Palestininans calling for Palestinians to kill Jews. Why is that? To Haaretz's credit the Mufti story did appear, briefly (and only in the context of reporting about those complaining Jews, complaining about it), but unlike the Mufti story, this moron in Atlanta will get saturation coverage by Haaretz and their readership (we know who they are from the thumb ups given to hatred of Jews, here).

As of Jan 11th Andrew Adler was a "Good Jew". Why is all the work he did for the Jewish community so easily discarded? He admits he made a big mistake. If he is truly sincere where is the Jewish support for Mr. Aldler now?

Take his suggestion of attacking Hezbollah and Hamas to deter Iran's nuclear program. One must be utterly insane to believe that, or simply indulging in satire.
Obama vetoed an important UN resolution condemning settlements. he also derailed an attempt to get the UN to recognize a Palestinian state. He voluntarily gave Israel $300,000,000 out of nowhere and he ratcheted up the sanctions on Iran until Bibi was somewhat satisfied. The only thing he has not done is wo instantly attack Iran when called upon to do so by Israel's right wingers. Is this the basis of the dislike? I think that Obama ought to be impeached for being too interested in Israel's interests and not enough in America's interests. It would be really nice if Ron Paul can send him home for good.
Perhaps the Atlanta Jewish Times is a shoe string operation, with one writer plus the owner who also writes pieces. McCurdy does not sound like a Jewish name, so his appointment as an interim managing editor is an invitation for Adler to re-instate himself in a while. My suggestion to Adler: You ain't fit to run a Jewish newspaper. Just sell your paper to some normal person and find something else to occupy yourself.
The damage has already been done and he could have mitigated it a little by resigning immediately the row began. Did he honestly expect to weather this? Do the Jewish nationalist right, its orthodox fair-weather allies and the parties in power in Israel really think that because the US is politically polarised and Newt Gingrich won one primary, that this kind of xenophobic, racist, chauvinism would go unnoticed, or even applauded? President Obama has been insulted once by Netanyahu and in so doing Bibi lit the fuse for this outrage, in rather the same vein as he stood by and allowed the vilification of Yitzhak Rabin. But there's a line beyond which patriotic Americans will not step, and that's incitement to assassinate their President, whoever he is and whatever his name. We tolerate incitement from rabid rabbis in Israel - that's our mistaken interpretation of free speech, and it's abuse is tolerated by Bibi for his own political ends, but it is an error and it would be good if we in Israel learned from our American friends and spoke out when in the intolerable is expressed.
At least he had the honesty of resigning.
