Israeli Knesset discusses jailed spy Jonathan Pollard

Perhaps if they had released him, his family would have him alive. Pollard deserves to rot in jail. Get over it Israel.

That will change their minds fast.

Pollard revealed the existence of side-peeking US 'Keyhole' spy satellites. This knowledge made its way to the USSR, and the USSR started hiding their stuff from them, leading to the nullification of an entire generation of US spy satellite tech. Each satellite cost about $3B in 1978 dollars, perhaps $10B today. There were 13 such satellites. That's $130B Israel should pay to free Pollard.

Obama is the 5th US President to say no to Pollard's release.

The issue here is the severity of the sentence. Compared to sentences assigned to other crimes a life sentence appears unreasonable. I think it is clear that by assigning such a severe sentence it was intended that he be made into an example. That is not justice. 30 years is enough.

What business does the Israeli parliament have debating the fate of a convicted spy Israel hired to spy on its ally. This is beyond disgust and truely raises major issues of why the US continues to support this miserable excuse for a democracy in its continuing implementation of apartheid

He hurt the US, he was caught and convicted and he should spend the rest of his life in a US jail. What is so special about Pollard--a lousy spy who made money from his spying. You Israelis can protest as much as you want but I doubt you are going to win this one. What can you do for Obama? Obama can pardon him, possibly waiting until his term ends but what for? You Israelis who so desperately want him released can start by kissing Obama's sit zone. Hold your nose!

Jonathan Pollard stole documents because he wanted money. He did not have a 'noble' motive. He admitted his guilt. That he should not have been punished because he sold American secrets to Israel, a 'friendly' country, is nonsense. It was not up to Pollard to determine what U.S. government information should have been provided to Israel. After his admission of guilt and imprisonment, Israel gave Pollard Israeli citizenship, a slap in the face of America. Pollard got the sentence he deserves: life in prison.
