Israeli judoka Arik Ze'evi captured the gold medal Sunday evening in the under 100-kilogram category at the international "Super A" judo tournament held in Paris.
Ze'evi was victorious in five matches, defeating by knockdown Georgian fighter Iveri Jikurauli in three minutes and 36 seconds. In the semi-finals, Ze'evi also defeated by knockddown a Bosnian competitor.
With Sunday's victory, Ze'evi secured a place on the Israeli Olympic team.
His Olympic contention was considered strong, given his 2003 victory in the European Championships, and the gold medal he captured in Paris on Sunday is considered a final validation of his success.
