Two IDF Officers Killed When Vehicle Overturns on Route 4

Two other IDF officers injured in the accident at Holot interchange; vehicle overturned after colliding with truck from behind.

Two Israel Defense Forces officers in their 20s were killed on Wednesday morning when their vehicle overturned at the Holot interchange on Route 4, just south of Tel Aviv.

Two other IDF officers were injured in the accident, one seriously and one moderately.

An initial investigation found that the officers' vehicle flipped after colliding into the back of a cargo truck, and continued to roll until ramming full force into a post.

The officers served at the Israel Navy base in Ashdod.

According to eyewitnesses, rescue forces had to cut through large portions of the overturned vehicle to free the passengers.

Magen David Adom personnel pronounced the two deaths at the scene of the accident.

The two injured officers were transferred to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.

The truck driver pulled over at the scene. He said that he did not see the vehicle until after he felt a bump when it collided with him.
