American Grevers sets Olympic record to win 100m back

Matt Grevers of the United States set an Olympic record to win the men's 100-meter backstroke at the London Olympics on Monday. Grevers finished in 52.16 seconds, 0.38 ahead of the previous mark set by fellow American Aaron Peirsol at the 2008 Beijing Games. Nick Thoman, another American, was second in 52.92, and Ryosuke Irie of Japan was third in 52.97. (AP )

Lithuania's Meilutyte wins women's 100m breaststroke gold

Lithuania's Ruta Meilutyte won the women's world 100-meter breaststroke gold medal at the London Olympics on Monday. Rebecca Soni, the two-time world champion for the event and the Beijing Olympics silver medalist, took the silver, while Satomi Suzuki of Japan won the bronze. (Reuters )

Federer to meet AndYoni in doubles

Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka advanced to the second round of the Olympics doubles on Monday with a 6-7 (5 ), 6-4, 6-4 win over Kei Nishikori and Go Soeda of Japan. The Swiss pair won a gold medal in doubles in Beijing in 2008 and are seeded sixth. Their next opponents are Israeli duo Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich, whom they meet tomorrow.
