A mortar shell fired from the Gaza Strip exploded between two day-care centers in a community in the southern region of Sha'ar Hanegev on Wednesday morning. No one was hurt but some property damage was reported.
Witnesses reported that there were no children in the buildings when the shell exploded, only teachers. The early warning system in the community failed to alert of the incoming shell, channel 10 reported.
On Saturday, Gaza militants fired a Qassam rocket into southern Israel. The projectile exploded in an open area in the Western Negev. No injuries or damage were reported.
These attacks came after a long period of calm, amid U.S.-sponsored efforts to relaunch direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, to which the Islamist Palestinian group Hamas objects. Hamas rules the Gaza Strip.
