Israeli Teen Killed After Being Struck by Pergola in Eilat

18-year-old was at Meridian Hotel in Eilat with five friends, when a pergola – partly made of metal – collapsed on him.

An Israeli teen was killed Tuesday after he was struck by a pergola that collapsed on top of him at a hotel in Eilat.

Matan Moshe Ben Simon, 18, of Kiryat Malakhi, was holidaying at the Meridian Hotel with five of his friends when he was hit by the pergola, which was partly made of metal.

Firefighters evacuated Ben Simon, who was critically injured as a result of the strike, and Magen David Adom services attempted to resuscitate him. Ben Simon was taken to hospital, where the doctors announced his death.

The cause of the pergola's collapse is not yet known. Police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
