An Israeli border guard was lightly wounded on Monday after he was stabbed by a Palestinian near the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
Initial reports indicate that the Palestinian, carrying a large nail, moved toward the soldiers who were guarding the Muslim site and began attacking one of them.
The border guard sustained wounds to his head and was evacuated in light condition to the Hadassah University Hospital in Ein Karem.
Another border guard, who was nearby, shot the Palestinian in his chest, inflicting serious wounds.
Magen David Adom rescue services that arrived on the scene resuscitated him and evacuated him to Hadassah University Hospital in Ein Karem in serious condition.
On Friday, an Israel Defense Forces soldier was killed in an exchange of fire on the Israel-Gaza border.
The exchange of fire ensued after a militant breached the border fence into Israel in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
The deceased IDF soldier was identified as Netanel Moshiashvili, 21, from Ashkelon. His funeral was held on Friday afternoon in the city's military cemetery.
