The Shomron Military Court on sentenced one of the men convicted of the murder of the Fogel family in the West Bank settlement of Itamar with five consecutive life sentences on Tuesday.
Hakim Awad, an 18-year-old from the nearby village of Awarta, who was convicted of murdering the Fogel family on August 2, was also sentenced to an additional five years in prison.
“The case is shocking, and would leave any civilized person open-mouthed,” the court stated.
Awad pleaded guilty to the charges in the indictment against him in August, which implicated him along with his accomplice Amjad Awad, who is 19-years-old, in the murder of five members of the Fogel family in their home.
Both confessed to the murder, and the military prosecution in the case said there is forensic evidence linking them to the scene of the crime, including DNA samples and fingerprints.
Five members of the Fogel family were brutally stabbed to death in their home in the West Bank settlement of Itamar on the night of March 11, 2011. The murderers killed Ehud and Ruth Fogel, along with three of their young child-ren, Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and Hadas, 3 months old, before fleeing the scene.
