An Israel Defense Forces soldier was wounded lightly by an explosive device planted near his tank in the southern Gaza Strip on Thursday morning. The soldier was mildly hurt from shrapnel in the device and the tank was unharmed.
This is the first significant incident in the strip after a few months of relative calm in the area, and it appears as though tensions are on the rise. Earlier this week Israel Air Force planes attacked a Palestinian cell that planned to fire rockets from Gaza to Israel.
Palestinian sources reported two dead in the operation, Mahmoud Abu Hajaz and Kamel Abu-Muammar, both Jihadi activists.
There have been at least three incidents in which militants have shot rockets from Gaza toward the Negev in Israel, and several attempts to shoot at Israeli vehicles near the strip.
