Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday, and said that the time has come to wave the Palestinian flag in the United Nations.
In their meeting, Erdogan and Abbas discussed international support for the Palestinians’ effort to be recognized as a full member of the United Nations.
On Tuesday, during a speech before the Arab League, Erdogan emphasized that the recognition of a Palestinian state was “not an option but an obligation.”
Moreover, Erdogan attacked Israeli policy and said that the mentality of the Israeli government is the barrier to peace in the Middle East.
The diplomatic crisis between Israel and Turkey has been deepening recently, after Israel refused to apologize for an Israel Defense Forces raid on the 2010 Gaza flotilla, in which nine Turkish citizens were killed.
