A large brush fire broke out Thursday afternoon at the edge of Haifa's Dori St., from the direction of the Carmel towards the Check Point shopping area. Fire-fighting crews from the Haifa station operating in the area, and police have asked dozens of residents of nearby Solomon St. to leave their homes.
Police announced that firefighters gained control of the fire.
Firemen have told residents of nearby streets not to leave their homes and to seal windows with wet rags. Police have shut off Solomon, Netiv Hen, Yaakov Hazan and Ha'tisha streets.
Two weeks ago, two Palestinians confessed to starting a huge fire on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The suspects said they had tossed a Molotov cocktail into the brush near Kibbutz Ma'aleh Hahamisha, and one of them reconstructed the incident, which police said had nationalist motivation.
