September 1 is the day school starts. Slowly that memorable day has been attaining the status of an official vacation day. Floating vacation days are defined as days on which public-sector workers (or private-sector workers covered by collective employment contracts) may choose to take off, at the expense of a day from their annual vacation.
The Finance Ministry has now agreed to the request by the Histadrut labor federation that September 1 become such a day. That in turn means that most of Israel's employees can take the kiddies to school by the hand without stressing about getting to work on time.
