American sports-shoe giant Foot Locker is expected to come to Israel soon.
Businessman Dan Gillerman, a former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, is negotiating for the Israeli franchise with Foot Locker.
Gillerman brought U.S. fashion chain Forever 21 to Israel, with a successful branch in Tel Aviv's Azrieli Mall.
One problem facing Gillerman is a lack of available stores in the large malls, said a senior mall executive who has discussed the matter with Gillerman.
Some fashion chains that have recently come to Israel, such as H&M and Forever 21, have changed Israeli buying habits and brought prices down, but Foot Locker is unlikely to have the same effect, said the executive.
"It will be wonderful competition in the sector, but there are already sports stores in Israel that sell the same products," he said.
Foot Locker has 3,500 branches in more than 30 countries and annual revenues of $5.5 billion.
