Plasan Sasa Wins Huge Tender to Armor Marines Vehicles

It's the biggest order ever won by a kibbutz company, gushes Hakibbutz

Plasan Sasa, which makes armoring for vehicles, won a $200 million tender this week to armor vehicles for the U.S. Marines.

Plasan is subcontracting for the American company International Military and Government in a $623 million project.

Plasan will manufacture the units by February 2008. According to the weekly Hakibbutz, this is the largest tender ever won by a kibbutz-owned company.

Plasan will armor 1,200 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, increasing their endurance and that of the personnel within.

In 2006 Plasan was the third largest kibbutz-owned company in terms of sales which, according to Dun & Bradstreet, totaled $180 million. Plasan also has contracts for the protective armoring of 200 Hummer SUVs for the Greek military, hundreds of British armed personnel carriers, which will be used in Iraq, and about a 1,000 military trucks for the U.S., totaling $100 million. Some 97 percent of Plasan's sales are for export.

Plasan company is the fastest growing firm among industrial Kibbutz companies, both in sales and in employees.
