Hundreds of Palestinians Clash With Israeli Forces in West Bank and Gaza; Dozens Hurt

Eleven wounded by live fire in Gaza, two of them seriously ■ In West Bank, dozens wounded after demonstrations of support for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel turn into confrontations with Israeli troops

Hundreds of Palestinians clashed on Friday with Israeli security forces across the West Bank and Gaza, in a gesture of support for a hunger strike of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.

Eleven Palestinians were wounded by gunfire in the southern Gaza Strip, two of them seriously, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. In the West Bank, dozens were wounded by tear gas and rubber bullets, the Palestinian Red Crescent said, with the most violent clashes taking place around Nablus in the villages of Beita and Bait Djan.

At the same time, in the village of Abud northwest of Ramallah, about 10 Palestinians were wounded, one of them by live fire. An Israeli police officer and a soldier were wounded by stones lobbed at Israeli forces in the same place. 

About 20 Palestinians were arrested in the clashes, five of which after throwing stones at the Rachel Tomb's enclave in Bethlehem, the IDF said. The others were arrested in clashes in Hebron and Abud.

Clashes developed all along the Gaza border, where hundreds of Palestinians torched tires and threw stones at Israeli forces, which responded with tear gas and stun grenades. 

Two Palestinian were seriously wounded and nine others lightly wounded by live fire near Khan Younis in the south, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Israel Police confirmed that live fire was used in Gaza but identified only four wounded Palestinians, shot by police snipers after drawing near Israeli territory.
