One man was killed and a 38-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were wounded in a shooting Thursday night in Lod, police said. The injured were taken to Assaf Harofeh Hospital near Ramle, where they underwent surgery.

A Magen David Adom paramedic on duty at the time, Yusuf Ismail, said he was at the first aid station when a car drove up with the injured man and woman, who had both been shot in the torso.

“We took them straight to the hospital, administering treatment on the way," he said, adding that they had been moderately wounded and were in stable condition.

Last month a 29-year-old woman from Lod, Siham Azbarka, was shot to death in her home. According to a close friend, she was sitting in the house with her younger brother when a masked man entered with and shot her with a handgun fitted with a silencer. The friend said that the brother, 20, started to scream and the man pointed the gun at him and threatened to kill him if he did not stop screaming. The man then left the house. A few days after Azbarka’s death, dozens of men and women demonstrated in front of the Lod police station against the authorities' inaction.
