A senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned Tuesday that the Islamic Republic could destroy Israel and any spot under its control. He also reiterated Iran's s assertion that it is not behind the arms shipment that the Israel Navy seized last week, allegedly en route to Gaza.
"Today we can destroy every spot which is under the Zionist regime's control with any volume of fire power fight from here," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Tuesday at a conference in Tehran, Fars News reported.
“Islam has given us this wish, capacity and power to destroy the Zionist regime so that our hands will remain on the trigger from 1,400km away for the day when such an incident (confrontation with Israel) takes place,” he added.
Speaking at the conference, entitled, "Islamic World's Role in the Geometry of World Power," Salami also declared that Iran was not the only country with the capacity to target Israel.
The message comes less than a week after Israeli naval forces intercepted an Iranian arms vessel carrying medium-range missiles in the Red Sea, about some 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from the Israeli coast. The shipment was headed for the Gaza Strip via Sudan. The IRGC denied the allegations, as did the Iranian government.
"The allegation is merely based on repetitious and baseless fabrications of the Zionist media," Amir Abdollahian, Deputy Foreign Ministry for Arab and African Affairs said,
