Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is expected to ask England boss Sven Goran Eriksson to release his players from England's friendly game against the Netherlands on August 15 so that they can be available to play in Champions League qualifying.
There are six Liverpool players in the England squad: Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Emile Heskey, Steven Gerrard and Nick Barmby and defender Jamie Carragher.
Liverpool is set to meet either Haka of Finland or Maccabi Haifa in the third qualifying round on August 8, with the return to be played at Anfield on August 21. Three days later Liverpool , the UEFA Cup holders, are due to meet European champions Bayern Munich in the "Supercup" in Monaco.
